Okie coney sauce

My grandfather used to take us to a coney dog place in west Tulsa, not too far from the fairgrounds. I have no idea what their called or even if it’s still in business, I imagine not. it’s been over 40 – 45 years. Nevertheless, we’ve spent years developing this recipe which is as close as we can remember.  Just toss your favorite hotdog on the grill and cook to perfection. Place it on a bun and smoother with coney sauce.  🙂

Ingredients:

2 pounds ground beef.
1, 14.5 ounce can of beef broth.
1, 28 ounce can of diced tomatoes (puree before using).
1/2 cup of water.
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper.
2, tablespoons chili powder.
1, tablespoon paprika.
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper.
1 tablespoons onion powder,
2 tablespoons garlic powder..
1 tablespoon Crystal, Louisiana hot sauce.
1 teaspoon kosher salt.

You might also try a couple of chipotle peppers added to the tomatoes and then puree them all together. Its good too!

Cooking Instructions:

Cook the ground beef until the pink is gone and drain, then set aside. Mix all of the ingredients into a 2 quart mixing bowl. Add to meet and simmer for 3 hours.  It’s advised to allow to cool fully and allow the flavor to fully develop. Heat as needed, spoon onto hotdog. Top with graded cheese and diced onions if desired.  **To get the fine texture, add the cooked ground beef to the other ingredients and mix with the blender until desired texture.
